Lyme Regis Cobb

At its heart, is the year round resort of Lyme Regis, Pearl of the Dorset coast, where a stroll along its seaside Cobb, haunted by Meryl Streep in the film ‘The French Lieutenant's Woman' is essential.

The Coastal Path retraces the steps of the Jurassic coast. The beach is where Mary Anning, over a century ago discovered outstanding fossils, and even today, the Blue Lias cliffs between Lyme Regis and Charmouth are still a fossil hunter's dream.

The beaches are sandy and gently shelving, and dolphins regularly swim in the bay.

Nearby are the resorts of West Bay and Charmouth, with its Fossil Centre.

Further afield take a short drive to Portland on the Coastal road overlooking the magnificent Chesil Beach, sweeping down into Abbotsbury and the Swan Sanctuary, and onto Lulworth Cove.

Over the border, into Devon, you will find the Seaton to Colyton tramway, and the red cliffs of Sidmouth.

Whatever your holiday preference, we are sure you will enjoy a break here. Whether you prefer to take off to the coast, visit one of the many lovely open gardens or Historic Houses, roam the lanes and woodlands locally, or simply unwind.
